GSL ready to take school levy plan on the road

Recognizing it will likely need to explain the details of its request voters eliminate one existing property tax levy and replace it with a different amount, Glencoe-Silver Lake School District officials are planning a series of information meetings leading up to its Nov. 6 referendum.
The school district is planning seven meetings beginning tomorrow, Sept. 20, 7:30 p.m., in the high school’s room No. 443. The rest of the series of meetings are Sept. 25, 7:30 p.m. in New Auburn at the community center; Oct. 3, 6 p.m., at Neisen’s Bar in Biscay; Oct. 8, 6 p.m., in the high school’s room No. 443 before the school board meeting; Oct. 16, 7:30 p.m., at Lakeside Elementary School in Silver Lake; Oct. 22, 6:30 p.m., in Plato at the fire hall; and Nov. 1, 7:30 p.m., in the Brownton Community Center.
The newsletter the Glencoe-Silver Lake School District plans to send out in October will also contain information on the proposed levy increase.
“I believe public meetings are important because they are an example of how our board and administration reaches out to be transparent in our actions and gather input from the residents of the Glencoe-Silver Lake School District,” said Director Jamie Alsleben, the school board’s chairman. “We want the public to see the same factual information our board members use to arrive at our decisions, as well as give the public the opportunity to ask questions for clarification as they arrive at their decision prior to the vote.”
