GSL School Board approves soccer co-op with Hutchinson
The Glencoe Silver Lake School Board approved a cooperative agreement for the boys and girls soccer program with Hutchinson Public Schools at the board meeting Monday, Feb. 10. The agreement will be effective for the fall 2020 season, pending approval of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL).
Athletic Director Dean Schwirtz presented the proposal to the board at its January meeting.
Under the agreement for the girls’ team, each school would host five weeks of practice, beginning in Hutchinson. In order to host a practice, a team must have 50 percent of the total numbers of participants in the program, based on the previous year-end numbers. Both schools had 28 girls in their programs, Schwirtz reported in his presentation in January.
The teams would play the already established 2020 Hutchinson schedule with 75 percent of the home games (four games) being played in Hutchinson and 25 percent (2 games) in Glencoe. The team would wear the host site uniforms.
Coaching would be determined by seniority with the final assignments determined by the administration, which includes the activity directors. The Hutchinson coach has seniority.
Practice times would start in Glencoe at 3:35 p.m. and Hutchinson at 4:00 p.m. Based on the current participation numbers transportation would be provided.
