SCHOOL BOARD MEETING
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT #2859
PLACE: GSL Schools Community Room #443/444
DATE: October 14, 2019
TIME: 7:00 p.m.

Board Chairman Alsleben called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. The following board members were present: Alsleben, Kuester, Lindeman, VonBerge, and Luckhardt. Director Lemke was absent.

The Board approved the consent agenda and addendum to the consent agenda. Hirings: Carrie Roselund – Paraprofessional-Special Ed Lincoln; Jeffery Iverson – Asst. Knowledge Bowl Coach;Matt Foss, Chris Sonju, and Dean Schwirtz – Junior Class Advisor/Prom Advisor; Annie Frey – ECLC/School Readiness Paraprofessional; Haylee Fransen – Lakeside Paraprofessional Special Ed; Julia Schumann – 7th Grade Girls Basketball; Tanner Schafer – 9th Grade Girls Basketball; Carol Silus – Cultural Liaison; Cynthia Ruiz – Cultural Liaison; Tina Aguilar – Cultural Liaison; Teresa Kuester – Panther Pals; Terry Shogren – Chess Club; Joel Jacobson - Panther Field House Front Desk; Samantha Cornell – Danceline. Community Education Assignments: Tricia Fenske – Panther Paw Lead Instructor 2019-2020 Year; Traci Schwarzrock – Panther Paw Coordinator 2019-2020 Year. Leave Request: Emily Wurm – Paraprofessional, LOA January 14, 2020 to April 21, 2020.

The Board approved the following: post the Education Minnesota: GSL seniority list for 20 days; post SEIU Local #284 seniority list for 20 days; adopt the limited expansion of the school district’s transportation services during the 2019-2020 school year beginning on November 19, 2019 and ending on March 22, 2020; adopt the resolution supporting the district application to the MSHSL Foundation for reimbursement of activity fees.
Discussion on hiring a part-time Community Education Director that has a Community Education License. Board instructed Superintendent Sonju to collect further data from neighboring districts. No action was taken.
The Board tabled approving the updated job descriptions for Social Worker, Cultural Liaison, Panther Pals, Chess Club Advisor and Interpreter, until November board meeting.
Board failed to approve the amended contract of Community Education Coordinator/Panther Field House Director. Directors Luckhardt and Lindeman voted For. Directors Alsleben, Kuester, and Von Berge voted Against. Motion failed 2-3. Further discussion took place regarding the job title and position. Motioned was made to table until November. Motion was then made to amend the previous motion and either table until next board meeting or until additional information is obtained.
The Board will bring back the following policies for adoption at the next School Board meeting: 419, 507, 508, 512, 532, 603, 613, 620, 910.
