GSL sending several to 2A meet

The Glencoe-Silver Lake track and field teams are sending 17 individuals and four relay teams to this Saturday’s Section 2A championship meet following competition in Subsection 8 at Jordan High School on Thursday, May 25.

Zoe Christensen is one step from a return to the state Class A meet in the shot put after her lob of 39 feet, 11.25 inches was tops in the subsection by over three feet. However, it was her performance on the track that has etched her name in the GSL record books.

The junior also won the subsection title in the 100-meter hurdles with a new team-record time of 16.09 seconds. Christensen’s time qualifies her for the 2A meet with the fourth-best seed time among her section competitors. Her shot put effort is third-best among those she will compete with at the section meet.

Also one step away from a return to state meet is Maddie Monahan, who won the subsection title by nearly two full seconds in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 46.77. Her seed time is also fourth best among sectional competitors.

Monahan is also part of the Panthers’ 4x400- and 4x100-meter relay teams that qualified for the section meet. She joined Malayh Metcalf as well as Elsie and Emily Graupmann to finish second in the subsection with a time of four minutes, 28.28 seconds in the 4x400; the senior teamed with Erin Jaskowiak, Rachael Popp and Paige Litzau to take fourth in the 4x100 at 52.92.
