GSL sets 2 more forums on proposed building bond

Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) has set two more public forums for its proposed $24 million building bond, the School Board heard at its Monday night meeting.
Superintendent Chris Sonju said one of the forums will be Thursday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m., at Helen Baker School. The second will be May 7 at 6 p.m., with a question and answer session in the high school media center. Sonju said the district hopes to capture some of the crowd that will attend the “Panther Prowl” on May 7.
In addition, Sonju said, the district will continue its Tuesday tours of Helen Baker Elementary and the high school.
The proposed project includes closing Helen Baker and moving those elementary students to an addition at the high school and junior high campus.
In other matters related to the building bond, Business Manager Michelle Sander reported that the Minnesota Department of Education had approved the review and comment submitted by the district, which outlines the project, why it is needed, and how it will be funded.
“There were no red flags, no revisions to be made,” said Sander. She added that the review and comment notice had been properly published in the district’s official publication.
A required mailing notifying voters of the ballot and polling places will go out this week, said Sander, and a special edition of the school newsletter will be mailed around May 1, shortly before the May 12 election.
