GSL softball falls below .500
Last week was a rough one for the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team. The Panthers, who began their season with a 3-1 record, fell below the .500 mark with three consecutive losses at home against Wright County Conference rivals to enter this week with a 3-4 mark.
The losing streak began with an 11-1 loss to visiting Mound Westonka in the Panthers’ first game at their new home field on the GSL campus. The White Hawks blitzed their hosts with seven runs over the first two innings and took a 10-0 lead before GSL mustered up its first tally in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Madison Posusta recorded the Panthers’ lone RBI with a double that scored Miranda Grack. GSL recorded nine hits in all to 12 hits for the visitors. Erika Ribar and Grack were both perfect at the plate, going 3-for-3 and 2-for-2, respectively.
Panthers’ starting pitcher Moriah Maunu went four innings before Layne Herrmann relieved her for the fifth and final frame of the game.
GSL was shut out in its next two games, losing to Dassel-Cokato 5-0 on Thursday, April 21, and 3-0 to Annandale the next day.
Maunu claimed the Panthers’ lone hit in the Dassel-Cokato loss, while Ryley Oliver went 2-for-3 against Annandale.
The Panthers were back out on the road on Tuesday, April 26, with a trip to New London-Spicer, after the Chronicle went to press. GSL is back home this Thursday with a game against Rockford and are slated to play at Holy Family Catholic next Monday.
