GSL student earns State Fair grand champion for projects
Cassie Perschau, a senior at Glencoe-Silver Lake High School (GSL), received a grand champion award at the Minnesota State Fair for two woodworking projects that were completed at a GSL woodworking class taught by Michael Sundblad.
Perschau has taken two woodworking classes and was inspired to start woodworking by her older brother, who also took woodworking classes. “It sounded interesting and I live on a farm, so it’s always been around me. I thought it would fun,” said Perschau.
For the class, Perschau created an end table and a mirror, both of which were assigned projects by Sundblad. Perschau decided to stain both projects with red mahogany finish and chose to engrave her mirror with a quote about family and an elegant tree to go alongside it. The quote she picked was “The love in our family grows strong and deep, leaving special moments to treasure and keep.”
