Hard times for netters

It’s been a difficult year for the Glencoe-Silver Lake tennis team. The squad remains without a victory on the season as a number of fresh faces have been thrust into the varsity lineup out of sheer necessity.

With the most recent loss of Tess Chap, out due to a back injury, the Panthers are currently fielding a varsity squad that is almost entirely different than the one that took to the court for the season opener less than one month ago.

“We will have seven girls who never thought they were going to play varsity tennis, this season, in the lineup,” coach Robb DeCorsey said. “Three of which are first year players.”

Chap, who had ascended to No. 2/No. 1 doubles, is the latest to be claimed by the injury bug. Preceding her were No. 2 doubles player Maddie Dressel – out with a broken ankle, No. 3/No. 2 single Katie Doolittle – down with a sprained ankle, and No. 1 single Mady Posusta – who is recovering from a concussion suffered away from the court.
