He’s looking for ‘united’ in United States of America

Not sure when we dropped united from the United States of America, but it seems to be gone. Maybe we should just change it to the 50 States of America, and pretend we can all get along.
Right now, that’s not the case.
Lately, it has gotten to the point where those who think differently are the enemy. Folks, we’re all Americans.
We have a worldwide pandemic ravaging the nation, yet we have no clear, cohesive national approach to attacking the disease. What we have is each state operating independently, 50 different approaches.
And the partisan bickering rages unabated. In the meantime, over 180,000 Americans have died during this pandemic, with more to come. Some think the pandemic is an exaggeration and others don’t believe the science or scientists. They only believe information that agrees with their own political views.
In the meantime, Americans continue to die as many choose to ignore the dire warnings.
We have some states aggressively attacking COVID-19, and others who have taken the ‘matador defense’ of waving a cape hoping it just disappears some day.
While Minnesota has taken a cautious approach, South Dakota is wide open with few or no concerns. What’s happening in the sunbelt states leaves everyone scratching their heads.
Minnesota’s governor is accused by Republicans of being a dictator in his approach to handling the crisis. Can you imagine if the state Legislature was in charge of the pandemic control? We’d still be arguing whether there really is a pandemic let along addressing it.
We simply cannot, or will not, unite to fight a common foe. We cannot agree that in order for the economy to rebound, the pandemic needs to be under control.

If that’s not enough
Also, we are sitting on a powder keg over race relations in which the ideological left blames the police and right blames the left-wingers for fanning the flames. Two takes on the same problem. No one can agree on a solution.
The same is true in the global warming debate. Meanwhile weather patterns continue to generate worse storms around the globe. Neither the ‘chicken little,’ the-sky-is-falling approach nor the stick-your-head-in-the-sand approaches seem to work.
Instead of finding a compromise, we’re all rigid in our views and those opposed to us are simply wrong.
That’s not exactly united.
