Hilstrom visits Glencoe
Debra Hilstrom, a Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party candidate for Minnesota’s attorney general seat, stopped at The Chronicle to discuss her reasons for running, why she believes she embodies the features of a versatile candidate, facing a combative federal administration, and her dedication to protecting Minnesotans from corporate exploitation.
Hilstrom planted her political seed as a city council member in Brooklyn Center when her dad invited her along to offer public testimony on an issue before the council. While there, he was reprimanded by a then-council member for being illiterate, a secret that he kept from Hilstrom: “How do you know if you can’t even read?” — an intentionally derogatory remark from the council member, according to Hilstrom, which unintentionally inspired a potential attorney general.
