Historical groups seek partnership
The Glencoe City Council, at its Tuesday, Jan. 20, meeting, approved a resolution of support for a plan to form a partnership among the various historical groups in the county.
(The Council met on a Tuesday because of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Monday, Jan. 19.)
The partnership will seek a state heritage partnership grant to hire a director to coordinate efforts, write future grants and lead programs that would benefit all the local groups.
The grant application would help fund a one-year, full-time director position. That person would help the McLeod County Historical Society, the Glencoe Historic Preservation Society and Historic Hutchinson develop long-range plans for the groups. Any other county community with a historical group also is welcome to join, said Lori Pickel-Stangel, executive director of the McLeod County Historical Society.
While the Glencoe City Council favored the formation of the larger organization, it was hesitant to pledge its financial support at this time.
