Irene M. Domeier, 98, of New Ulm

Irene M. Domeier, 98, of New Ulm, died peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2014, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 3, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm with the Rev. David Bendix officiating. Burial was in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Irene Mathilda Ottilia Behrmann was born July 28, 1916, in Round Grove Township, McLeod County, to Ernest and Lydia (Bauermeister)  Behrmann. She attended country school in Round Grove Township until the eighth grade.
She married Herbert Cordes on Feb. 28, 1937, at the Fernando Lutheran church near Stewart, the same church she was baptized and confirmed in. After marriage, she moved to New Ulm, where she worked as a loving mother and homemaker. She later married Ferdinand Domeier on July 21, 1973.
From youth on Mrs. Domeier had a love of the outdoors. Growing up on a farm with only sisters, she gladly took the role of her father’s farmhand, assisting with chores. After moving to town, she was still able to display her love of the outdoors through her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.
She also enjoyed playing card games with family and friends, especially Golf or Farkle. Her willingness to give will be the memory her children will hold most fondly of her. She was always there when one needed her, and always willing to give her time, especially when it came to her grandchildren.
Mrs. Domeier was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm, and a member of the Seifert-Bianchi Post 132 American Legion Auxiliary in New Ulm.
She is survived by her daughters, Dinah (Jim) Skalicky of St. Peter and Darla (Allan) Gebhard of New Ulm; stepdaughters, Kitty (Ron) Russo of Downers Grove, Ill., Patricia Furth of New Ulm, and Cheryl (Glen) Higgenbotham, and Debra Nelams, both of Church Point, La.; son, Dale (Jeanny) Cordes of New Ulm; 24 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons; sisters, Lena Sell of Hutchinson, Elvera Mackenthun of Hamburg, and Phyllis Brede of Hutchinson; and sisters-in-law and brothers-in law.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Herbert Cordes; second husband, Ferdinand Domeier; grandsons, Shane Cordes and Andrew Holland; and great-granddaughter, Amber Schnurrer.
Memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Ulm.
Arrangements were with the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home in New Ulm.
