James Draeger

James S. Draeger, 78, of Glencoe, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Memorial services were held Thursday, Sept. 1, at the First Congregational Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Michael Fritz officiating. Lon Roach was the organist and Renae McKimm was the soloist. Interment was in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
James Draeger was born May 18, 1938, in Glencoe, the son of Lee and Lucille (March) Draeger. He graduated from Glencoe High School in 1956. He entered the U.S. Navy on Jan. 21, 1957, and served in the Pacific aboard the USS Yorktown. He was discharged Dec. 31, 1958. He married Evon Koester on May 23, 1959, and they had two daughters, Kimberly and Karen. Mr. Draeger owned Lee’s Super Valu until he retired in 2000.
Mr. Draeger enjoyed his family, friends, fishing, hunting, golf and spending the winter months in Naples, Florida.
He was a member of the Rotary Club, Zuhrah Shrine Club and Marco Island Shrine Club. He was a life member of the American Legion, VFW and the Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Glencoe and served as a trustee.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Evon; daughters, Kimberly (Chuck) May and Karen Palmateer; three grandchildren, Kendra May, Miles Palmateer and Paige Palmateer; sisters, Shirlee (Tom) Nystrom and Suzanne Bacon; sister-in-law, Norma (Orland) Witte; and many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lucille Draeger; in-laws, Bill and Clara Koester; and brothers-in-law, Russ Bacon and Billy Koester.
