Jody Winters sworn as new district judge

On Friday, June 9, Jody Winters was appointed as the new First District judge for McLeod County. The investiture ceremony took place at at the Glencoe City Center and she was sworn in by Chief Judge Terrence Conkel.
Winters has been a partner at Gavin, Winters & Long, Ltd., in Glencoe since 2002. She joined the firm in 1998 after working as a judicial clerk in Carver County and as an assistant McLeod County attorney for five years. She obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, with a major in criminal justice and a minor in political science in 1989. From there, Winters attended Hamline University of Law in St. Paul, from which she graduated in 1992.
Winters was chosen by Gov. Mark Dayton from a selection of four other attorneys that were forwarded onto the governor from the first round of interviews. Winters interviewed with Dayton and a panel of four other people. The announcement was made public Friday, April 21. Winters is replacing Michael R. Savre, who retired in March.
