Kenneth H. Mackenthun, 86, of Plato

Kenneth Herbert Mackenthun, 86, of Plato, passed away Monday, Aug. 27 at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long-Term Care in Glencoe.
Funeral Services were held Friday, Aug. 31, 11 a.m., at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg with interment in the church cemetery. Pastor Mark Triplett officiated the ceremony and Kathy Oelfke played the organ. Jeff Mackenthun and Todd Bentz performed “In The Garden” accompanied on the piano by Nancy Buckentine. Doug Stuedeman and Linda Stuedeman performed special recessional music, “Amazing Grace.” Congregational hymns during the ceremony included “Old Rugged Cross” and “Abide With Me.”
Casket-bearers were Kenneth’s grandsons Jeffrey, Scott, Josh, Justin, Kenneth Randy, and Michael.
Kenneth Herbert Mackenthun was born Jan. 3, 1932, in Hamburg. He is the son of Annie W. (Oelfke) and Edward D. Mackenthun. Mr. Mackenthun was baptized as an infant Jan. 10, 1932, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth April 21, 1946, both at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg. Mr. Mackenthun attended Emanuel Lutheran School and was a graduate of the Central High School Class of 1950.
On June 6, 1953, Mr. Mackenthun was united in marriage to Marilyn Bentz at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg. They made their home in Plato. Their marriage was blessed with four sons, Jeff, James, Randy, and Rod. Kenneth and Marilyn shared over 65 years of marriage.
Mr. Mackenthun was a lifelong farmer. He was a lifetime member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg where he served as a trustee and elder. He was a lifetime member of the Glencoe VFW Post No. 5102.
Mr. Mackenthun enjoyed his time outdoors and his profession as a farmer allowed him to spend plenty of time there. He took pride in raising his family and in doing so made certain that both his faith and work ethics were instilled in his boys. In his spare time, he relished the opportunity to get a round or two of Sheephead or 500 in – take your pick. He was up for it! Mr. Mackenthun also enjoyed the occasional Twins’ games, Sunday polka music and a good old-fashion Clint Eastwood western. His most cherished time though was spent with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Mr. Mackenthun is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Plato; sons, Jeff and his wife, Katherine, of Waconia, James Mackenthun and special friend JoAnn, of Pine River; Randy Mackenthun and his wife, Gina, of Lester Prairie, Rodney Mackenthun and his wife, Kathy, of Plato; grandchildren, Amanda Panek and her husband, Mike, Jeffrey Mackenthun, Scott Mackenthun, Josh Mackenthun, Justin Mackenthun, K.R. (Kenneth Randy) Mackenthun and his wife, Kayla, Danielle Mackenthun, Anna Mackenthun, Abby Mackenthun, Michael Mackenthun; great-grandchildren, Sydney Panek, Claire Panek, Graham Panek, Ava Mackenthun; brother, Gene Mackenthun and his wife, Sharon, of Plato; sisters-in-law, LaVerna Mackenthun of Glencoe, Elvera Mackenthun of Norwood Young America, Lilah Mackenthun of Glencoe, Betty (Kenny) Feltmann of Lester Prairie, Judy (Robert) Mueller of Young America; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Mackenthun is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Annie Mackenthun; parents-in-law, Harry and Lorna Bentz; sisters, Leona (Clarence) Bruers, Roma (Hilton) Wolter; brothers, Clem Mackenthun, Hillard (Marlys) Mackenthun, Harvey Mackenthun, and Weldon Mackenthun.
