Kenneth P. Kontz, 80, of Hutchinson

Kenneth Kontz
Kenneth Peter Kontz, 80, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at his home.
 
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m., at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson. The Rev. Jerry Meidl officiated. Bev Wangerin was the organist and Bobbi Ludewig was the song leader. Musical selections were “Here I Am, Lord,” “Amazing Grace,” “One Bread, One Body” and “On Eagle’s Wings.”
 
Honorary bearers were Mr. Kontz’ grandchildren. Interment was in the church cemetery.
 
Kenneth Peter Kontz was born Sept. 21, 1934, at his parents’ home in Lincoln County, Minnesota. He was the son of Clarence and Mildred (Achen) Kontz. He was baptized as an infant in 1934 in Elkton, South Dakota, and was confirmed in his faith in 1946 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Ivanhoe. He was educated in Hendricks and was a graduate of the Hendricks High School class of 1952.
 
On Sept. 3, 1956, he was united in marriage to Audrey Joan Meyer at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Canby. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Dawn, Keith, Bryan, Doreen, Debra and Jonathan. The couple resided in Canby, Prior Lake, Glencoe, Hutchinson and Alexandria, and wintered in Many, Louisiana, before moving back to Hutchinson. They shared 58 years of marriage.
 
Mr. Kontz held employment at Schwartz Manufacturing, Telex Communications, Viking Tool and Die, and Hutchinson Manufacturing. He retired in 1992. He attended St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson.
 
He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed teaching his grandchildren how to hunt and fish. He and his wife loved to travel. He especially cherished spending time with family, grandchildren and friends.
 
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Kontz of Hutchinson; children, Dawn (Steven) Schwalbe of Dassel, Keith (Linda) Kontz of Wichita, Kansas, Doreen Runke of Alexandria, Debra (Tim) Mathews of Glencoe and Jonathan (Robin) Kontz of Rothschild, Wisconsin; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph (Marlys) Kontz of Canby and Merle Kontz; sister, Sharon Benson of Shakopee; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Kontz of Marshall and Arlene Haroldson of Granite Falls; brother-in-law Vernon (Gwen) Meyer of Avondale, Arizona; many other relatives and friends.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mildred Kontz; son, Bryan Paul Kontz; brother, Richard Kontz; brothers-in-law, David Benson and Glen Haroldson; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vernon and Dortha Meyer.
