Lady Panthers clinch share of WCC West championship
With yet another three-game sweep, this time of Rockford, the Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team clinched at least a share of the Wright County Conference West championship Monday night.
However, coach Lori Schwirtz had little time for any talk of splitting the crown with anyone this season – pointing instead to the one critical game remaining on the team’s schedule.
“We can win the title outright on Thursday,” she said. “We don’t want to share it this year.”
The Panthers, 24-5 overall, take a 6-0 conference record into Thursday night’s contest at WCC West foe Annandale. The Cardinals saw their chance at possibly sharing the conference championship go by the wayside in a five-game match loss to Dassel-Cokato on Thursday, Oct. 8.
However, with GSL holding a one-half game lead over second-place New London-Spicer – which has completed its conference slate – Annandale could still play the role of spoiler.
