Legislature could have finished its work
To the Editor:
I believe that the Republican led Minnesota legislature is largely responsible for the legislature not finishing its work this session. According to the editor of Mankato Free Press, the process the Republicans used of omnibus bills was unconstitutional. They were well aware of this but chose to do it anyway.
These actions resulted in the following: a loss of funding to make Minnesota schools safer; failure to conform Minnesota tax laws with the federal government; avoiding a funding cut for personal care attendants who care for our most vulnerable citizens; failure to address the opioid crisis, just to mention a few of the important issues not addressed.
Governor Dayton warned the legislature many times to send these bills to him as stand alone bills. Their failure to heed his warnings resulted in unnecessary political gridlock. Minnesotans deserve better!
