Leonard Noga, 85, of Glencoe

Leonard R. Noga

Leonard R. Noga, 85, of Glencoe passed away Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Glencoe Regional Health.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, Sept. 23, 10:30 a.m., at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe with the Rev. Anthony Stubeda as celebrant of the Mass.
Visitation was held Sunday, 3 to 7 p.m., and Monday, one hour prior to the Mass all at the church. Parish prayer service was held Sunday, 6:30 p.m., followed by a Knights Of Columbus Rosary service. Interment was in the St. Pius X Cemetery in Glencoe with military honors were provided by VFW Post 5102.
Leonard Raymond James Noga was born Aug. 15, 1934, in Silver Lake, the son of John and Pauline (Schocinski) Noga. He was Baptized at St. Adelbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Mr. Noga received his First Communion and was Confirmed at St. George Catholic Church in Glencoe. He was a graduate of the Silver Lake High School in 1952.
After high school, Mr. Noga worked for the Horner Waldorph Paper Company until April 22, 1953 when he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was deployed to Morocco during the Korean War. Mr. Noga was a member of the 38th Air Division and received the national defense, good conduct and the marksman medals. He received his honorable discharge April 22, 1957, at Hunter Air Force Base in Savanna, Ga. Mr. Noga continued to serve his country for the following 10 years as a reservist.
Leonard was united in marriage with Gertrude H. Donnay at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Glencoe Sept. 22, 1956. This union of 56 years was blessed with children, Douglas, Lori, Wayne, Scott and Daniel.
Mr. Noga had worked for Pinske Construction for 18 months prior to beginning his career in beer distribution and sales. He was employed with Marsh Distributing from 1957 through 1976, followed by Trible G Distributing until his retirement in 1994. Mr. Noga continued to stay busy by working part time for Starkey Labs for the following five years.
Mr. Noga was very active in the community. He was a member of the Glencoe Lions Club since 1974 where he served as president in 1979. He received both the Lions Melvin Jones and the Hearing Foundation awards. Mr. Noga, a proud veteran, was a life member of the VFW.
Mr. Noga was a member of the Knights Of Columbus since 1963 where he served as chairperson of Christmas tree sales, brat stand, and fish fry for many years. His service to his church included ushering, weekly money counting and leading the rosary prior to Mass.
Mr. Noga enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and caring for his cactus garden. He loved to smoke a variety of meats including turkeys, ham and bacon. He attended many community events, especially the local fish fries. He cherished the time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Noga is preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Noga; parents, John and Pauline Noga; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edmond and Patricia Noga, Leo and Beverly Noga, Jack “John” and Betty Noga, Ernest Noga, Irvin and Ida Noga.
Mr. Noga is survived by his loving family; children, Douglas Noga and his wife Margaret of Rochester, Lori Doering and her husband Scott of Gaylord, Wayne Noga and his wife Mavis of Glencoe, Scott Noga and his significant other Rhondalynn of Hutchinson, Daniel Noga and his wife Rhonda of Glencoe; grandchildren, Marie Harris and husband Michael, Laura Noga, Randi Niklekaj and husband Altin, Danielle Amira and husband Mahdi, Crystal Koshiol and husband Jason, Nicole Acharya and husband Jyotindra, Jacqueline Vik and husband Brandon, Anthony Noga and wife Daphne, Joshua Noga and significant other Katie; great grandchildren Bensen Noga, Ramsey and Adam Amira, Kolton Niklekaj, Benjamin and Atticus Harris, Daxton and McKenna Vik, Mia Koshiol; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Noga, Joan Schmeling, Leona Donnay; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Anthony Noga, Joshua Noga, Mahdi Amira, Altin Niklekaj, Michael Harris and Brandon Vik served as casket-bearers. Randi Niklekaj, Danielle Amira, Crystal and Jason Koshiol, Nicole and Jyotindra Acharya, Jacqueline Vik, Marie Harris, Laura Noga, Daphne Noga and Katie Stenger were honorary casket-bearers.
