Letter to the editor: Film shows what former clinic director ‘didn’t know’

To the editor,
“Unplanned” opened in theaters nationwide this last weekend including in Hutchinson. It is the true story of Planned Parenthood clinic director, Abby Johnson, who was involved with upwards of 22,000 abortions. Abby believed she was helping women, but her eyes were opened when she participated in an ultrasound-guided abortion of a 13-week-old unborn baby which compelled her to not only leave Planned Parenthood but to become a pro-life activist.
Abby Johnson said, “There is no justice for the unborn because we don’t see them die. Because it’s done in secret, people don’t understand what’s taking place inside the womb.” In a very informative preview video https://www.unplannedfilm.com/30minpreview the “Unplanned” filmmakers remind us of these mind-numbing statistics:
• Estimated 1.5 billion abortions worldwide since 1980, a quarter of the plant is missing.
• 1 million abortions each year in the U.S.;
• Three thousand abortions a day in the U.S.;
• 1 in 3 women will have had an abortion by age 45;
• There are places in the U.S. where more African American babies are aborted than are being born;
• Silent genocide predominately in minorities; and
• Seventy-nine percent of abortion facilities are placed in minority neighborhoods.
This movie shows us what is going on behind closed doors, what we don’t want to see. It exposes what is taking place in abortion clinics. Abby states in the preview video that no one can walk away from this movie and say, “I didn’t know.”
This movie is rated “R” by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), which means people under 17 require an accompanying parent or adult. Abby Johnson has written a letter to parents who are concerned about this "R" rating. Abby said she will bring her 12-year-old and her friends who have pre-screened the film are bringing their 10, 11, and 12-year olds along with their teenagers.
From the experience of having had two abortions Abby Johnson empathetically states that “there is hope and there is healing and there is forgiveness and there is no condemnation because of what we have done in the past.” Abby hopes that “Unplanned” will give people that hope.
Director Cary Solomon, states that “Abby’s story is the most powerful story the pro-life world has experienced up to this point” and I agree! “Unplanned” is playing in Hutchinson through Thursday, April 11, perhaps longer. Go to www.unplanned.com to view the trailer and for theater information. Please make every effort to see “Unplanned,” bring as many people as you can and tell others about it.
