Looking forward to building, STEM expansion

To the Editor:
As we take time to reflect upon a wonderful 2015, and look forward to the opportunities in 2016, I would like to take this time to thank all of our stakeholders for their support of GSL. On behalf of all of us here, I would like to wish everybody a wonderful holiday season and a happy New Year. Things are going well as we begin 2016, and it seems fitting that this would be a good time to give you an update on some of the improvements that we are working on.
In a few months we will be seeing groundwork starting on the building project. You may have already noticed that the fence surrounding the front tennis courts is gone and the soil borings have been completed. We are now in the final stages of the design phase, with the ground breaking taking place sometime in March, depending on the weather.
This is a very exciting time for GSL and we look forward to the opportunities our new addition will bring for our students. During the construction the site will be secured and all efforts will be made to make sure safety is a top priority. Our plan is to continue to use the bus lane and the sidewalk as we do every day. The only difference will be the addition of a safety fence and, at times, some really awesome-looking equipment for the students to see … we will need to make sure all students catch their bus on time!
All in all, we are going to make this process as safe and as simple as possible for our students and staff during construction. It is inevitable that there will be some inconveniences along the way, but it will all be well worth it when the project is completed.
Another exciting area we are currently working on is to expand our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) program. “Project Lead the Way” is currently offered in our high school and junior high. We are not only looking at expanding this program in these grades, but also in our elementary schools. This program does a great job of advancing our students’ knowledge in these areas. While there is much to do, we are moving forward and looking to expand what is already offered to our students.
Once again, on behalf of all of us at GSL, I wish you nothing but the best in the New Year. We are looking forward to the learning opportunities that 2016 will bring and we thank you for your continuous support of GSL Schools. Take care.
