With low bids, city of Brownton considering adding to project

Because the construction bid on the city of Brownton’s street and utility project came in $300,000 less than expected, the City Council began discussions about adding to the project at its May 1 meeting.
Shannon Sweeney, financial consultant from David Drown and Associates, was on hand to discuss financing about the add-ons, in particular if the additional cost exceeded the original budget, because his firm would have to come with additional funding options.
Sweeney also advised the council to make sure it maximizes the grant it received for sanitary sewer and wastewater plant work.
Chris Knutsen of Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH), Inc., the city’s engineering firm, identified up to $567,000 of additional utility work and wastewater improvements that could be done with the project, and about another $229,000 in street surfacing work.
