Luella Bernice Becker, 94, of Glencoe
Luella Bernice (Knick) Becker, 94, of Glencoe, formerly of New Auburn, died Friday, May 22, 2015, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, May 27, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn. The Rev. Bradley Danielson officiated. Dawn Walter was the organist. Congregational hymns were “In the Garden,” “Abide With Me” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket bearers were Tim Becker, Mike Becker, Chad Dolly, Ronald Knick, Errol Becker and Eric Dahlke.
Interment was in High Island Cemetery, New auburn.
Luella Bernice (Knick) Becker was born Jan. 5, 1921, at home in Penn Township, the daughter of Walter and Emma (Wilhelm) Knick. She was baptized as an infant on Jan. 23, 1921, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth on April 14, 1935, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. She attended country school in Penn Township. She was blessed with one son, Roger.
On Nov. 27, 1938, she married Herbert Becker at the Penn Lutheran church. The couple made their home on Herbert Becker’s family farm near New Auburn. In additional to being a loving mother and homemaker, Mrs. Becker helped on the farm and held seasonal employment at Green Giant. She was first a member of the Penn Lutheran church where she was part of the Ladies Aid, and later became a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Auburn.
Mrs. Becker enjoyed playing cards, fishing, vegetable and flower gardening, canning (especially known for her strawberry jam) and traveling. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Roger (Kathy) Becker of New Auburn; five grandchildren, Wendy Becker (special friend Linda), Timothy Becker (special friend Amber), Cindy (Dean) Dahlke, Kari (Kirk) Brinkman and Ryan Becker (special friend Amber); 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Lorraine Gehrke of Winthrop; sisters-in-law, Bernice Knick of Glencoe, Mildred “Millie” Knick of Hutchinson and Fran Knick of Hutchinson; brother-in-law, Eddie Becker of Glencoe; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Becker; parents, Walter and Emma Knick; brothers, Ellsworth (Mildred) Knick, Eugene Knick, Earl Knick and Vernon Knick; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Willmar Gehrke, Dorothy Becker, Art (Gladys) Becker, and Esther (Leonard) Grenke.
