Matmen sixth in opener

The Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team began the season in familiar manner by hosting the annual Don Hall Invitational at GSL High School on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The Panthers recorded 60.5 points to finish sixth out of nine squads in the team standings during a meet that proved as a useful springboard for the season, according to coach Lance Wurm.
“Some things went good, some went bad, but we are learning,” he said. “It was the first competition of the season and our guys saw some different styles than they’d seen in practice. Overall, we saw some good things that we can build on.”
Peyton Sell claimed GSL/LP’s lone individual victory of the tournament, topping two other Panthers to take first place in a 1-2-3 sweep for the hosts at 285 pounds.
Sell, who is expected to move down to 220 pounds this season, defeated teammate Paul Lemke in the championship round after both had gone 2-0 in preliminary matchups. Another Panther, Brandon Holmers, placed third at 285 by pinning Kimball’s Grant Garding to finish off a 2-1 day at the meet.
