Matmen wrap up regular season

A busy couple of days marked the end of the regular season for the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team. The Panthers hosted a quadrangular meet on Thursday, Feb. 9, and then packed up and traveled for another dual at Watertown-Mayer the next evening.

GSL/LP hosted Canby, Tri-City United and Hutchinson in a night chock-full of wrestling in the GSL gymnasium on Thursday, Feb. 9. It wasn't the kindest of evenings for the hosts, with the Panthers going 0-for-3 against the competition.

Canby opened the proceedings with a 58-15 defeat of the Panthers. Eric Williams won by fall at 120 pounds, with Michael Meyer claiming a 5-3 decision at 126 and A.J. Sanchez winning by forfeit at 145.

Tri-City United topped GSL/LP 63-10. Zachary Voelz won a 14-2 major decision at 113, with Kole Polzin winning by fall at 132 to account for the Panthers' scoring. The win was the 60th of Polzin's high school career.

GSL/LP got out to an 18-0 lead on Hutchinson before losing 49-24. Voelz and Meyer both won by fall at 106 and 120, respectively, to sandwich Garrett Berry's win by forfeit at 113. However, the Tigers claimed nine of the next 10 matches en route to the victory. Dalton Kosek interrupted Hutch's run with a win by fall at 152.
