MCA results: GSL students’ scores about average with peers statewide

Results from last year's Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) in math, reading and science showed Glencoe-Silver Lake School District students performed approximately on-par with their counterparts statewide.
The Minnesota Department of Education released the results of last year's MCAs last Thursday, Aug. 30, just in time for the opening day of the 2018-19 school year. The results can be analyzed in a variety of ways, all depending on how a person chooses to read and interpret the results.
The math exam is taken by third- through eighth-graders and high school juniors. The MCA reading exam is taken by third- through eighth-graders and high school sophomores. Fifth- and eighth-graders and students in a high school science class take the science exam.
Of the approximately 806 Glencoe-Silver Lake students who took the math exam, 18.4 percent exceed the required performance standards. About 39.9 percent of the students who took the MCA math test met the state standards while 25.3 partially met the performance standards in the math test.
