McLeod County Planning Commission reviews proposed ordinance change

Members of McLeod County’s Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed and approved a proposed change to the zoning ordinance regarding language allowing second homes on lots for the care of those in need of medical help.
The commission met Wednesday, May 23.
The old language in the ordinance allowed for a second dwelling in the agricultural district as “an accessory home for family members needing special care.” That care could be because of illness or age.
The new language will allow friends of family to be included, not just family members.
Larry Gasow, zoning administrator, said that a request had been made by a couple for a second home on their property for a family friend to whom they are close. Under the current language, that would not be allowed because the person is not a family member.
Gasow added that the change in the language will need final approval by the county board.
