MnDOT plans new transportation study for Glencoe area

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is planning a new study of transportation needs in and around Glencoe, the city of Glencoe’s Personnel and Legislative Committee heard Monday afternoon.
The committee was presented with a scope of services proposal drafted by MnDOT, which includes “a better network connectivity for Minnesota Highway 22, safety improvements at intersections along Highway 212, and a re-examination of the transportation infrastructure in the Glencoe community.” One of the goals of the new study is to come up with at least “six conceptual drawings of alternative route connections of Minnesota Highway 22 to U.S. Highway 212.”
City Administrator Mark Larson said the last transportation study was completed in 2003. According to the proposal, part of the new study is to re-evaluate that study and see if some of the recommendations made then are still valid today.
Larson said a project management team will be formed to include people from the three entities in the study — the city of Glencoe, MnDOT and McLeod County. In 2003, he said, that team consisted of about 10 to 12 people, and the city’s contingent included people from the economic development committee and the Chamber of Commerce.
