MnDOT plans safety study of Highway 212 through city of Glencoe

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is planning a new safety study of the Highway 212 corridor through Glencoe, the McLeod County Board of Commissioners heard at its Nov. 21 meeting.
Lindsey Bruer of MnDOT was at the meeting to review MnDOT’s District 8 10-year capital highway investment plan.
County Commissioner Doug Krueger, who represents Glencoe, asked about the Highway 212-Chandler Avenue intersection at the southwest edge of the city.
“Is Chandler on the radar?” asked Krueger. “There have been a few things done, but there continue to be accidents there.”
Bruer said a “comprehensive safety study in the city of Glencoe” is in the works.
Bruer indicated that a long-range solution may be “a better alignment of Highway 22 … a better way of connecting that to Highway 212.”
Krueger said that accidents also continue to occur at Highway 212 and Morningside on the east edge of town.
Bruer said that the safety study will include “public meetings, outreach and surveys” to get public opinion on safety issues and possible solutions.
