MnDOT weighing options, input on highway study

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is considering a handful of alternatives for Highway 22 to be rerouted through downtown Glencoe.
MnDOT recently released the alternatives and the thoughts it heard from residents on their feelings about Highway 22 and its access to Highway 212 and Highway 212 through the community.
MnDOT says the input it received from residents indicate a concern about future growth and increased traffic at intersections along the two highways. The agency will hold a public meeting in late-April or early-May to let people know what ideas were not included in the final recommendation for rerouting Highway 22 due out in June.
“We took a lot of time asking people about their ideas and listening to them. We want them to make sure people understand what we considered and why,” said Mandi Schmidt, MnDOT’s director of public engagement for the study of the two highways.
Later in May, MnDOT will be back in Glencoe to meet with people on their recommendations for improving Highway 212. Concerns citizens raised include access, confusion where to turn on and off the highway and pedestrian crossings.
