MNsure CEO visits Glencoe, talks about enrollment

MNsure Chief Executive Officer Allison O’Toole was in the local KGLB radio studio Thursday morning, where she stressed two things to Glencoe-area listeners — individual coverage buyers are close to the “window” for purchasing insurance, and that skyrocketing premiums are being offset by federal tax credits.
O’Toole said that MNsure is the “marketplace” for buying health insurance.
“It’s a platform for providing apples-to-apples comparisons among plans,” said O’Toole. She likened it using Kayak or Travelocity to compare rates for travel plans.
“It’s the same basic concept, except health insurance is a little more complicated,” said O’Toole.
O’Toole said that premiums have, indeed, increased, but that means the federal government will provide more financial help in the form of tax credits.
“When premiums increase, so do tax credits. People will have access to tax credits that will help reduce those monthly premiums,” O’Toole said.
