Money should be used for educating students

To the Editor:
Thank you, Ken Polifka! I think your proposal is a win-win idea.
In the first place, why are we even discussing using $300,000 of school money, money that belongs to GSL students for their education.
Second, what difference does it make what Mr. Polifka does with the land; even privatley owned green space within the city limits should yield some tax revenue. The city would still have a say in its future use by permits, etc. I am sure Mr. Polifka is not going to use it to dump waste or blight.
Third, the GSL School District does not belong to Glencoe; there are several other communities in the district, including Silver Lake, Plato, New Auburn, Biscay and Brownton. The $300,000 is meant for educating a bunch of students. Maybe $300,000 is small change for some of you, but it is a fortune to me.
I have lived in this school district for over 44 years and have felt that we have a great school district and, I thought, we had a responsible school board. Thank you to the three schoolboard members who voted for the money to stay in the GSL coffers.
I own farm land within the school district and a house in the city of Glencoe, all helping to fund GSL. My seven children all graduated from here and so did six of my 12 grandchildren, one as valedictorian. The money belongs to the school — leave it there.
