A most needed victory for Panther boys' hoop

A rare Monday night game against the Wright County Conference West co-leaders proved to be just what the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team needed to cure what was ailing them.
The Panthers, who entered the evening on a four-game losing streak and had lost their past two contests against New London-Spicer and Dassel-Cokato by double digits, overcame a 15-point first half deficit to defeat Rockford 79-78 and improve to 6-15 on the season.
“It feels great,” guard Teddy Petersen said. “The last few weeks have been really tough on us. We’ve had a lot of downs and it’s just nice to get an up here. Maybe it’ll get us rolling a bit.”
Petersen led the Panthers with 25 points in the game, sinking five three-pointers and drawing comparisons to Golden State Warriors star guard Stephen Curry from his coach, Robb DeCorsey.
“Teddy was fantastic tonight,” DeCorsey said. “But overall, you have to hand it to our kids – they really stepped up in the second half. They needed to close out and win a game like this.”
As triumphant as the contest finished, it sure didn’t start that way.
