New Lighthouse pastor seeks mission of a ‘right relationship’ with God
The Rev. Dale Baker has a simple mission for Lighthouse Church, located west of Plato on Highway 212: to make it known as a congregation “that has a right relationship with God.”
Baker, who has been with the church since May, said he is “all about relationships, especially a relationship with our Lord, Jesus. My philosophy of ministry is to be relational in all I do, to connect with people, to know people.”
Baker bases his mission statement on Revelation 2:4: “But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first.”
Baker said the verse is somewhat of a rebuke to early Christians whose early ardor for Jesus faded. While he does not feel that is an issue at Lighthouse Church, he does feel that its mission “is to restore the church to its first love, that of Christ. I want this church to be known as a church where that love is put first.”
Baker noted that Lighthouse is a congregation of 40 to 50 faithful people who have weathered a long stream of struggles.
“It’s a real family here — a real family of people who have been through all these changes and challenges and are committed to seeing this church move forward and seeing it grow.”
