Newman’s ‘hands-free’ bill awaiting Senate floor debate
Sen. Scott Newman’s bill banning drivers from using their hands to operate a wireless device while driving is alive and awaiting debate on the Senate floor.
The bill would require hands-free use of cellphones and other wireless devices. It is one of several bills at the Minnesota Legislature aimed at curbing distracted driving in the state. Other bills under consideration, like the one Sen. Dave Osmek, R-Mound authored, proposes stiffer fines than are currently on the books. It has passed the Senate Transportation Committee and is awaiting a hearing in the finance committee today, March 20.
