Officials talk about Morningside in joint workshop

Members of the Glencoe City Council, Planning Commission, Glencoe Economic Development Committee and County Board of Commissioners met Friday, Jan. 12, to discuss the last phase of the Morningside Avenue project.
The McLeod County Board of Commissioners approved the cooperative agreement with the city of Glencoe to extend Morningside Avenue from 11th Street to 16th Street (also known as CSAH 15) in late December.
A motion by City Council Member Gary Ziemer to enter into a cooperative agreement with McLeod County for the Morningside Avenue extension project failed for lack of a second at the Tuesday, Jan. 2, Glencoe City Council meeting.
The hour-long workshop began with a brief history of the project from City Administrator Mark Larson, who summarized the two past phases of the Morningside Avenue project (from 2005 and 2009) and the final phase, which was originally announced in 2015. The Morningside Avenue corridor has been in the works since the 1960s.
Following Larson’s quick presentation, John Rodeberg of Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH), Inc., the city’s engineering consultant, spoke about the proposed final phase of the Morningside Avenue project, which would extend Morningside Avenue over the railroad tracks to connect with CSAH 15.
