Omer Templin, 92, of Glencoe

Omer Wayne Templin

Omer Wayne Templin, age 92, of Glencoe, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 10, at Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 17, at 11 a.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe, Minnesota, with interment following at the Glencoe City Cemetery in Glencoe.
Pastor Jon Niebuhr was the officiating clergy.
Marjorie Hemmann was the organist.
“Here I Am Lord,” “In The Garden” and “Jesus Loves Me” were the congregational hymns.
Omer’s grandchildren, Lance Stradtmann, Ryan Zieman, Travis Stradtmann, Kendra Fischer, Kolynn Johnson, Kati Berwald, Adam Harmer, Nick Buckentin, Angela Visher, Autumn Dummer, Abigail Lambert, Brennan Schuette and Sydney Lambert – were the casket-bearers.
Omer Wayne Templin was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Plato, where he was raised. He was the son of Alfred A. and Ella (Fenske) Templin. Omer was baptized as an infant March 12, 1927, and later was confirmed in his faith as a youth April 6, 1941, both by Rev. Bunge at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ formerly St. Paul’s E & R Church in Plato. Mr. Templin received his education through the eighth grade in Plato.
Omer was united in marriage to Delores Oltmann Nov. 21, 1947, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. Omer and Delores made their home in Gaylord and Glencoe. Their marriage was blessed with four daughters, Sandra, Linda, Cheryl and Renelle. Omer and Delores shared over 28 years of marriage until Delores passed away May 16, 1976. Omer was united in marriage to Evelyn Oltmann Nov. 27, 1976, at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. Omer and Evelyn made their home in Glencoe. They shared over 42 years of marriage.
Mr. Templin owned and operated three feed mills in Glencoe, New Auburn and Brownton, for 16 years. In 1969, he started selling real estate in Glencoe. Omer was the general contractor for the Super 8, TC&W, the Glencoe Aquatic Center and Pamida all in Glencoe. He also liked being an auctioneer and mailman for fun. Mr. Templin was an active member at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe, where he served on the church council and sang in the church choir. He was also the McLeod County Weed Inspector, the Glencoe city building inspector and a member of the Glencoe Rotary. Mr. Templin served on the Glencoe Fire Department for over 20 years.
His favorite pastime was playing cards, especially skat and sheephead. He loved deer hunting and being on the lake fishing in the summer and the winter. Mr. Templin also enjoyed bowling on multiple bowling leagues.
Mr. Templin passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 10, at Grand Meadows Senior Living in Glencoe, Minnesota, at the age of 92 years, four months and 21 days. Blessed be his memory.
Mr. Templin is survived by his wife, Evelyn Templin of Glencoe; daughters, Sandra Sorenson and her husband, Duke, of Henderson, Nev.; Linda Stradtmann and her husband, Lyle, of Glencoe; Cheryl Ruud and her husband, Paul, of Glencoe; Renelle Lambert and her husband, Patrick, of Glencoe; step-children, Brian Oltman of San Diego, Calf., Kevin Oltman of Glencoe, Karen Schuette and her husband, Mark; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Betty Gillespie of Hancock; many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Omer was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Ella Templin; first wife, Delores Templin; granddaughter, Shayne Zieman; fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law, Arthur and Caecilie (Dose) Oltmann, and Frank and Viola Hoffman; sisters, LuVerna Hedtke and her husband, Clarence, Pearl Farber and her husband; Ray, Leona Braun and her husband; Marvin; brother, Earl Templin; brother-in-law, Tom Gillespie; sister-in-law, Lorraine Luety and her husband, George.
