One point at a time – Sinking free throws: Relaxation, muscle memory, repeat . . .
Despite all the shots, rebounds, passes and defensive plays, an overtime win or a gut-wrenching setback for the GSL hoops teams came down to uncontested shots from a stripe 15 feet from the basket.
To some, making free throws is an art, a case of mind over matter. Others might see it as a lot of fuss over a single point. But when the game is on the line, GSL varsity hoops coaches want their best players to be among their best free-throw shooters.
“It is a difficult shot,” said Jeff Monahan, coach of the Panthers’ girls’ team. “But we do our best to prepare them for it. Our players don’t back down. They want to take them.”
