One task leads to another, and another

Sometimes it seems like a simple task involves into a daylong activity. Kind of like pulling the end of a ball of yarn only to have the whole thing unravel around you.
Case in point: I was hungry for meat loaf the other day. So I pulled a couple pounds of hamburger out of the freezer before I left for work in the morning.
In the evening, I was gathering ingredients when I began to wonder if my eggs were a little on the suspect side. I’m not an egg eater, and usually reserve them for baking or other recipes.
Better to be safe than sorry, I thought. I tossed them out. Then I started scoping out the fridge for other possibly expired items: wilted lettuce, soured yogurt, salad dressing past its due date. I finally ended up planting the garbage can in front of the refrigerator and began tossing just about everything.
Then I scrubbed down the interior of the refrigerator (is it really possible to get dust in a fridge?), and added back the few things I saved. The inside of my refrigerator gleamed like a showroom model, with a bottle of ketchup, a carton of milk and a bottle of orange juice acting as props on the top shelf.
Oh, and two pounds of hamburger for which I had no other ingredients to make a meat loaf. I had a bowl of popcorn instead.
I briefly contemplated filling the fridge up with healthy food, but I suspect that’s how I ended up with a bunch of expired items.
I’m one of those people who opens the refrigerator door, scans the piles of lettuce, carrots, vegetables and soy milk and thinks “I have no food.” So I go out to eat or order a pizza.
The other day, I spotted a wisp of a spider web in the corner of my kitchen ceiling. I can just picture how this will go: I’ll knock down the web, then decided I need to wash the walls, which leads to cleaning the baseboard, washing the floors, cleaning out the cupboards, and who know what all.
Maybe the best thing to do is keep my head down so I don’t see the spider web anymore. It’ll save a lot of labor.
