Orth Foundation looks to ‘Jam the gym’

The 18th-annual Tim Orth Foundation basketball benefit in Glencoe is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, April 2, at the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School gymnasium.
The stated mission of the Tim Orth Memorial Foundation (TOMF) is to assist, financially or otherwise, children in the west central Minnesota area who are facing substantial medical expenses incurred as a result of a serious accident or illness.
“This is all about the kids and families that we are able to help,” said Janelle Neubauer of the foundation. “The money we raise, 100 percent of it goes to the recipient families.”
Tim Orth, for whom the organization is named after, was a BOLD High School (Bird Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian) student/athlete who succumbed to an inoperable brain tumor on Feb. 14, 1997.
This year, the foundation once again hosted three “Jam the Gym” benefits to benefit recipients local to their respective areas. Glencoe’s benefit was preceded joined by similar events in both Fairfax and Bird Island on March 18 and 19, respectively.
Two basketball games featuring area athletes will highlight what promises to once again be a energetic night geared toward establishing a greater sense of community throughout the area. There will be plenty of other entertaining diversions besides basketball during the event.
Proceeds raised through admissions, concessions, donations, raffles and a silent auction will go toward 13 area families.
