Panther boys' hoop thumped by New Prague

It was the only game of the week for the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team – and it wasn’t much to write home about. A matchup at New Prague on Tuesday, Dec. 8 turned out to be a forgettable affair, with the Panthers falling 67-25 to drop to 1-3 on the season.

Whereas GSL’s previous two losses both came in the final moments of games against Hutchinson and Sibley East, this time matters were settled early on. The Trojans led 39-17 at halftime, then held their visitors to a miniscule eight points after the break en route the 42-point decision.

No Panther hit double digits in scoring, with forward Jacob Popelka and guard Shane Ehrke leading the squad with seven and six points, respectively. Guard Luke Frahm and forward Jacob Litzau mustered up five points apiece, with forward Alex Romano wrapping up GSL’s scoring with two points.

The Panthers had a full week to let the loss sink in, followed by a long road trip. GSL traveled to New London-Spicer to begin this week’s slate of games on Tuesday, Dec. 15, after the Chronicle went to press.

A two-game homestand awaits the Panthers following their trip to New London. Norwood Young America visits GSL on Thursday night, followed by Dassel-Cokato on Friday. The Panthers close out their pre-Christmas slate of games with a trip to Jordan next Tuesday.
