Panther girls’ CC wins opener
It was an impressive start to the season for the Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ cross-country team as the Panthers cruised to the win at the Norwood Young America Alumni meet at Baylor Park on Saturday, Aug. 25.
GSL swept the top three individual positions and placed all five of its scoring runners in the top seven places to win with a miniscule 18 points. Maple Lake/Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity was second with 45, while NYA was third with 74.
Returning state meet veteran Malayh Metcalf won the meet with a time of 20 minutes, 39 seconds. Maddie Lemke was second in 21:01 and Kendall Guerrero third in 22:19. Megan Siewert placed fifth in 22:59 and Abigale Boetel seventh in 23:19 to round out the Panther scoring.
Head coach Josh Metcalf is optimistic for the upcoming season as his team returns all six members of last year’s sectional competitors. Including the top-five finishers at NYA, the Panthers also bring back Majkya Metcalf this season.
“We have a great group of hard working, positive girls who have dedicated themselves to maximizing their abilities,” coach Metcalf said.
Lemke was all-Wright County Conference West last season, with Malayh Metcalf and Siewert earning all-conference honorable mention spots.
