Panther matmen claim first three wins of season
It hasn’t been the easiest of seasons for the Glencoe-Silver Lake/Lester Prairie wrestling team, but the Panthers found their roar last week with the team’s first three meet wins of the season.
GSL competed in a multi-team meet at Mound Westonka on Thursday, Feb. 2.
After falling to the hosts 43-24 in their first dual of the evening, the Panthers claimed their inaugural dual victory of the year with a 42-37 defeat of Edina.
Against the White Hawks, GSL got wins from Sawyer Varpness (7-0 decision) at 106 pounds, Zachary Voelz (fall 5:12) at 113, Eric Williams (14-5 major decision) at 120, Cody Rae (15-0 technical fall) at 170 and Paul Lemke (forfeit) at 285.
Against the Hornets, Panther wins came from Voelz (fall 2:49) at 106, Garrett Berry (forfeit) at 113, Williams (fall 2:45) at 120, Kole Polzin (fall 5:12) at 132, Dalton Kosek (fall :56) at 152, Rae (fall :54) at 160 and Lemke (fall 5:04) at 285.
