Panther softball comes out swinging
After losing its season opener to Watertown-Mayer, the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team peeled off three consecutive wins by margins ranging from narrow to great.
The Panthers’ initial four-game set concluded with a 6-5 win against neighboring Norwood Young America, in what could prove to be a clutch sectional victory come season’s end.
GSL never trailed the Raiders, putting up three runs with two outs in the opening inning and scoring three more in the second inning to go up 6-0 before hanging on for the slimmest of triumphs.
Ryley Oliver, who beat out an infield single to start the Panthers’ first-inning rally, went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Layne Herrman drove in three runs, while scoring once herself, with Molli Cacka also claiming an RBI.
