Panthers’ super season finishes on a down note
It was not the end to the season that the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team envisioned.
The Panthers, who entered the state tournament last week on a nine-game winning streak and had not lost two games in a row since mid-April, bowed out of the Class AA bracket with back-to-back defeats to end the season with a 20-6 record.
“I’m not disappointed, some people might be, but I’m not,” coach Dean Schwirtz said. “I have the utmost respect for our kids. To be in the final eight teams out of what I believe is 133 Class AA teams, that’s quite an accomplishment.”
GSL, who placed third in last year’s state tourney, entered this year’s field as the No. 5 seed and were matched up against fourth-seeded Marshall on a sunny afternoon at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud on Thursday, June 11.
