Panthers CC teams tune up for sections at conference meet

The 2015 Glencoe-Silver Lake cross country season inched closer to the finish line with the Wright County Conference West championship meet, held on Tuesday, Oct. 20, in New London. The Panther boys’ team took third overall, with the girls’ squad coming in fifth.

GSL’s top male runner, Michael Schaefer took runner-up honors on the 5,000-meter course with a time of 17 minutes, 15.60 seconds. Schaefer edged out Annandale’s Zackary Boos by just over a second-and-a-half, with Boos crossing the line in 17:17.20. The pair of seniors was just under nine and 11 seconds off the pace of conference champion Sam Abegglen of Mound Westonka, who won the meet in a time of 17:06.70.

The Panthers’ duo of Austin Schroepfer and Michael Meyer and finished ninth and 10th, respectively. Schroepfer bested Meyer by an eyelash as the two finished with times of 17:56.40 and 17:57.00.

Megan Siewert led the GSL girls with a 16th-place finish of 21:43.90 seconds over the same course. Fellow eighth-grader Annamaria Falcon was not far behind her classmate, as she took 19th with a 22:03.00.

Representing the Panthers’ seventh-graders, Majkya Metcalf concluded her race in a time of 22:15.10, which was good for 21st.
