Panthers end five-game skid against Tigers

For the first time in five years, the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team reigns supreme over its most familiar rival – and it took just one touchdown to do so.
The Panthers won their second game in as many tries this season by defeating the host Tigers 6-0 on Friday, Aug. 28. The lone tally of the contest came on a touchdown pass from quarterback Luke Frahm to running back Carsen Streich just before halftime.
“I told (defensive coordinator Dave Dose) after Thursday’s practice – because we didn’t have a very good offensive practice – I said, ‘if you shut them out, we got a chance to win,’” coach Scott Tschimperle said. “Our defense was outstanding. I don’t think Hutch ever got to the red zone against our team. There were some scenarios where we could have had a touchdown scored on us, but our defense came up with some big plays.”
It was the GSL’s first defeat of their Class 4A neighbors since 2010. It was also the first time Hutchinson has been shutout since 2009. The Panthers improved to 2-0 with a pair of road triumphs, while the Tigers have dropped to 0-2.
“I’m very proud of how our kids played, it’s a huge win,” Tscimperle said. “I think our kids went into the game confident that they could win, but going into a game like that on the road we had to be disciplined and poised. I thought we did that.”
