Panthers fall to Delano on Homecoming night

Dreams of a perfect season for the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team were suddenly squelched on Homecoming night as Delano thumped the Panthers 25-8 on Friday, Sept. 25.

“We got beat by a good football team,” coach Scott Tschimperle said. “Hand it to Delano.”

GSL was playing without the services of multi-back Teddy Petersen, who is sidelined with a groin injury. With their star player unable to go, the Panthers were pushed around by the visiting Tigers.

Delano’s defense overwhelmed the GSL offense for much of the contest, as the visitors put up 341 total yards to just 135 for the hosts.

The Panthers defense made it a game for as it could. The defensive unit recorded the GSL’s first points on a third-quarter safety, after the offense fell two yards shy of scoring a touchdown. However, the stalwart defenders were eventually ground down after spending the majority of the game on the field.

“Our defense was just on the field way too much,” Tschimperle said.
