Panthers improve to 7-2

Mother Nature relented and allowed the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball season to kick into high gear last week.
While the Panthers did lose their first two games of the season, the squad remained on the good foot by also winning four contests to improve to 7-2 on the season.
Last week started off with an 8-7 loss at New London-Spicer on Tuesday, April 23, as the Panthers could not recover from a five-spot that the Wildcats put on the board in the second inning.
Hannah Boesche and Lily Schmitt each posted two RBI for the visitors in the loss.
GSL bounced back with a 1-0 win at Mound Westonka two days later.
Kasidy Cacka drove home Miranda Litzau with the game’s lone run on a sacrifice grounder in the top of the seventh.
The single run made a winner out of pitcher Brianna Wraspir, who gave up just one hit and one walk in the shutout.
The Panthers found themselves on both ends of lopsided results in a doubleheader at Rockford on Friday, April 26.
GSL won the first game 8-2, while falling in the nightcap by a score of 16-3.
Wraspir smacked a grand slam as part of a seven-run fifth inning to propel the visitors to the win.
Off the rubber, Wraspir tossed another gem. She struck out 11, while allowing two walks, two hits and two unearned runs.
Kaitlyn Uecker scored a pair of runs, while six other Panthers scored one run apiece.
The Rockets turned the tables in the second game, seizing a 13-run win in just five innings.
GSL opened this week by sweeping visiting Annandale 4-3 and 2-0 in a doubleheader at home. Statistics were not available as the Chronicle went to press.
The Panthers hosted Litchfield on Tuesday, April 30, after the Chronicle went to press, and are slated to host Norwood Young America on Friday.
