Panthers remain perfect at 4-0

A 42-21 defeat of visiting Holy Family Catholic on Friday, Sept. 11, gave the Glencoe-Silver Lake football team, ranked second in Class AAA, a perfect 4-0 record halfway through the regular season. Given the team’s spotless start, the possibility of heading into the postseason at 8-0 is becoming a very real prospect.

“The sky is the limit,” coach Scott Tschimperle said of running the regular-season table. “I think we can, if the kids don’t look ahead – but we have to be ready to play every game.”

Tschimperle said that the Panthers’ offense, re-worked for 2015 after losing nine of 2014’s 11 starters, is “getting better every week,” and it showed once again against the Fire. The 42 points GSL posted were the most the squad has scored this season, two more than the Panthers recorded against Annandale.

In a twist, three of GSL’s six touchdowns came through the air as – at least for one night – “Ground and Pound” was replaced with the Panthers’ version of the “Silver Stretch.”
